Bird in Hand is in The Heart of
Downtown Chico.
We are one block from the city plaza and within three blocks of
the Chico State campus. A short walk will pass by three historic
museums and the locally famous and scenic Bidwell Park.
Barbara and Bob Malowney started Bird in Hand in 1981 with the
goal to match good quality products with customers' needs. At that
time, they operated a printing and design business in Chico and
felt the town needed a specialty store that dispensed fun and affordable
gifts.
The scope of products has grown and now the store encompasses sportswear,
home decor, stationery, and toys. The departments blend throughout
the store allowing a shopper to conveniently find "something
for everyone". Care is taken to assure value in every product
selected to be in our store.
In keeping with our motto: "If we're not having fun, we're
not doing it right", the folks at Bird in Hand continually
promote the qualities of life in Chico by organizing and supporting
community events. Annual traditions are maintained every spring
at Kite Day, as well as a chilly swim on New Year's Day. The store
hosts yearly the National Yo-Yo Contest and houses the National
Yo-Yo Museum. The museum is popular around the country and brings
many people to Chico to visit.
Downtown Chico is active with frequent cultural events as well
as seasonal events such as Slice of Chico, a unique downtown sidewalk
sale that treats all shoppers with free watermelon slices.
Bird in Hand seasonal in-store promotions include the sweetness
of Valentine's Day, the luck of St. Patrick's Day, the new born
spring of Easter, the remembrance of Mothers, the degrees of Graduation,
the approval of Fathers, the refreshing taste of Summer watermelon,
the returning to fall Harvest, the Treats for costumed kids, the
special Holiday Preview and the warmth of Christmas. These are events
to delight our customers and encourage their return.
