Plastic yo-yos have never performed like this. The ProtoStar is a product of John Ando and YoYoFactory not accepting 2nd best and pushing the boundaries of what a plastic yo-yo can do.
The YoYoFactory ProtoStar uses a large Central Bearing Co. Center-trac bearing to minimize friction of the string against the sides of the yo-yo. The Center-trac bearing is unique in that it still has a flat center, allowing multiple layers of string to sit side by side. The Center-trac bearing is clean (meaning dry) so it spins freely and along with a wider string gap, the ProtoStar is completely unresponsive and will require a bind to return to the hand.
Response on the YoYoFactory ProtoStar is accomplished by a pair of slim width large bearing K-pads. This silicone based material provides long life and a predictably strong bind on the return.
The shape of the YoYoFactory Protostar is a unique angular profile which further minimizes string contact with the sides of the yo-yo.
